32 faces · 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons: the shape of the football… and of the C60 molecule.
Archimedes listed it among his solids. But it was Buckminster Fuller who gave it new life in the twentieth century, writing it into architecture, geodesic domes, light structures able to cover the world.
20 hexagonal faces. 12 pentagonal faces. 60 vertices. 90 edges. At every vertex, 2 hexagons and 1 pentagon meet.
In 1985, the chemists Curl, Kroto and Smalley discovered that 60 carbon atoms naturally assemble into this exact shape. They named it Buckminsterfullerene, C60. The most famous of the fullerenes. The roundest molecule in nature.
Closed. The geometry complete in itself. The archetypal fulfillment.
Open. To hold a plant, a candle, a crystal, and to settle, naturally.
Glass is a fragile material. Given the complexity of some creations, slight imperfections may appear; they bear witness to the handmade work.
Clean gently with a microfiber cloth, without applying any product directly onto the piece (put it on the cloth instead). The pieces are not 100% watertight: do not immerse them, and do not leave them hanging outdoors for long periods.
Do not hang the geometries above people's heads in living spaces. Favor a spot close to a wall instead, or place them at head height.
